Summary

“My father is a carrier of loads. I am sleeping on the floor. I am sometimes going to sleep without anything all day. I like to jump rope and am serious. I want to become a dress maker.” Roodelinle Janvier

Household

I was born on November 8, 1998 in Haiti. I am 11 years old. I stopped going to school at 2 grade, because the little bit of money that my father wins was not enough for my education. I do not know great things from school but I can write my name.
My father’s name is Lucner Janvier. He is 48 years old. My mother’s name is Dieuzina Jeanty. She is 45 years old. I have only one sister. She is Desloune Chery who is 31 years old. I am living with my parents. I have no other relatives living nearby me.

Work

My father is a carrier of loads. He carries to make a living, when he goes out. Sometimes he earns $10ht -$20ht [$1.42 - $2.84 US]. Sometimes he comes home without money. He makes this kind of work every day. After that, he is doing nothing else.
My mom is selling soap. She buys one box on credit. But now she is not doing it anymore, because she has no money to pay the Customers. It is so difficult for my parents to make a good living.

Education

I cannot continue with my studies. It is always a problem for me when I am staying home and look at the many pupils who are going to school. My parents cannot help me continue. I think education is the source of all and I hope I will finish my studies and realize my dream.

Food and Nutrition

My family and I cannot feed well and we don’t cook. Sometimes we have bread, corn, vegetable tree without sauce, juice. I eat everything I find. I eat at the neighbor who sends something for my mother when my mother has nothing to give me. I am sometimes going to sleep without anything all day.

Shelter and Clothes

My parents are living in their own house. The house has only room and it is in sheet metal. There is not enough space for everybody to sleep. I am sleeping on the floor. The sheet metal is not comfortable – it leaks. Each time it is raining, my mother uses some basins to catch water up from the roof. But still the ground is wet, so it is difficult for me to sleep.
I have rats and mice in my house, but no bugs. Sometimes we have electricity. My mom pays $30ht. [$4.28 US]. When there is no electricity we use candles.

Health and Medical

Health for my family is another problem. My mom is unhealthy because she feeds not well. She has anemia, stomachache. My father is feeling bad too, headache, weakness. Me I have fever. When we have a symptom we just go to buy some medicine in the store or in the street without advice of a physician.
People in the area have cholera, skin and vaginal infection, malaria, because the water is treated badly.
Also, there are mosquitoes with malaria. Also, we don’t have enough food.

Personal qualities and Dreams

I am respectable, tolerant, serious, and cheerful. I am shy, I like to play with others, I like animals like pig, cat dog. My favorite color is blue. I like to watch television. I love to tell the truth. I like to jump rope and am serious. I do not like someone rub me, I want to change my turbulence to become a nice girl.
Dreams
The thing most important in my life is my health and my education. I want to become a dress maker. For that I want to find someone and I would like my friend anywhere to know that I am in a situation so difficult. I can’t realize my dream if I don’t continue my studies. I would like to tell you if you help me with my education and the situation that I am living in that will be great for me and my family.

The long-term and immediate needs of a person in extreme poverty are far greater than can be solved in a single year. People in Need Partnership focuses on the long-term needs of your partner, though we do provide research and a certain amount of help in other areas. You may enroll in optional programs to provide help in additional areas of your choice. Making a meaningful future possible for your partner is our ultimate goal.

This page may not have been updated with and so may not reflect optional programs created before July, 2009. Contact us with questions or thoughts about any discrepancies or missing information on this page.
