Send this child to school! ($15 per month for one year)
Summary
“It is a big problem when it is raining because the roof leaks and I am sleeping on the dirt ground. I eat one time a day. Before going to sleep my mom gives me bread with sugar water, and when there is nothing I go to bed without taking nothing. My dream is to become a technician in informatics.” Rebeca Nelson
Household
I was born on July 6, 1998, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. I am 11years old. I have two brothers and two sisters.
Rayold Nelson who is 16 years of age
Gaelle Nelson who is 9 years old
Caroline Nelson who is 16 years old
Gaelle Nelson who is five months. They have same father with me.
My father is Raymond. He is 42 years old. My mother is Dylia Joseph. She is 43 years old. I live with them and I have no other relatives living close to me
Work
My father has no profession to make a living. He sells bread. Each day he goes out he gets $20 or 30 ht [$2.86 - $4.28 US], a little bit money. It is not enough to pay my studies and take care of the others. After that kind activity, he is doing nothing else.
My mom is doing nothing. She always stays home and takes care of my last sister. If it’s only me it’s not a big problem, but there are my brothers and sister. For that reason the situation is so difficult to them to make me continue my education.
Education
I stopped going to school in first grade because my parents had no way to make me continue.
The first thing in a humans life is his education. So I am unhappy when I see a lot of children are going to school. Me I can’t, because my parents can’t pay for it. Education is the key of all success. I hope one day to continue my studies and get this key.
Food and Nutrition
I eat one time a day. Sometimes the neighbors send something to my mom. Before going to sleep my mom gives me bread with sugar water, and when there is nothing I go to bed without taking nothing.
Shelter and Clothes
My parents live in one room, not enough space for everybody. The house is in sheet metal and it leaks. The sheet metals are very bad. Each time it rains my mother arranges some basins to pick water up from the roof and stop water moving to the bed. But the dirt ground is wet.
For me it is a big problem when it is raining because I am sleeping on the dirt ground and can’t relax.
There are rats and mice in my home without forgetting mosquitoes, no bugs. There is power electricity. My mother pays $30 ht [$4.28 US] per month for it. Sometime we spend 3 days without it. My mom uses candles and a candle costs 1$ ht [$.14 cents US]. She can use two per night. When she can’t buy candles we are going to sleep in the dark
Health and Medical
My family is unhealthy because the water in the area is not treated well. Mosquitoes, flies come in our food. My father has headache flu, stomachache. My mother has vaginal infection, skin infection. There is a lot of illness, like fever malaria. I always have fever, headache. My parents buy me some medicine in the store or in the street without advice of a doctor.
Personal qualities and Dreams
I am generous, sincere. Not shy. I like to play, share with others, to watch television. I do not want to take something not belonging to me. I love to tell history, I love going to church on Sunday. I love my generosity and sincerity. I love to jump to the rope. My favorite color is green. I love to comb hair of other girls like me. I love animals like horse, duck. Many times I tell the truth. I rarely lie, I love my singing, dressing and dancing. I get my feeling when I am watching television.
Dreams
Everything has value for me without forgetting my health and my education. I hope one day to continue my studies. I want to live well. I would like to become a technician in informatics. My wish is to find someone anywhere in the world to help me. My dreams will become real and I will be happy not only me my family also.

The long-term and immediate needs of a person in extreme poverty are far greater than can be solved in a single year. People in Need Partnership focuses on the long-term needs of your partner, though we do provide research and a certain amount of help in other areas. You may enroll in optional programs to provide help in additional areas of your choice. Making a meaningful future possible for your partner is our ultimate goal. This page may not have been updated with and so may not reflect optional programs created before July, 2009.
