Send this child to school! ($15 per month for one year)
Summary
“I am always sick. If my mother has nothing to give us, we spend the whole day without food. I am sleeping on the ground. A little friend of mine who is going to school in 2nd grade, teaches me how to write my name, only my name. I am elegant, generous, obedient, affectionate, and I am peaceful. I would like to be a teacher.” Katty Neptune
Household
My name is Neptune Katty. I was born on November 3, 2000 in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. I am 8 years old. I never went to school since I was born. My mom has 8 children. 4 girls and 4 boys.
Odline, who is 21 years old
Sonel, who is 19 years old
Djoximy is 17 years old
Mikienson, who is 15 years old
Johanne, who is 10 years old
Clovenson, he is 6 years old
Djouna is 3 years old
Four of them are going to a Catholic school. They do not pay for that. My mother’s name is Marceline Joseph. She is 42 years old. She is from Jeremie. My father’s is Neptune Fritz. He is 42 years old. He was born in Jeremie too. My parents do not live together since 3 years, because he is too ill-bred. My mother has no other husband. She is doing nothing to make a living. All of us are living with her. I have been living here for 8 years but my mom has been living here for 34 years. I do not have relatives living nearby me. I have only one uncle. He is living at Carefour. He is doing Job sometimes. However, I do not know if he is doing that king of work everyday because I never go to see him.
Living conditions
WORK
My Mom has no profession but she has sometimes a little work to do. For example, laundry, ironing, and she is paid at piece rate, which cannot help her. When she is doing that kind of work she earns 100 gourdes [$2.50 US] per Saturday when she has jobbed. She uses big bowls doing that kind of work. As she does not find anything else to make a living, she has to do that for peanut money but she does not like her job.
My father is a jobber, he has work sometimes downtown as a bearer, but I do not really know how much he earns because he is not living in same place with us, and he doesn’t care about us.
My mother has doing her job for 2 years but before that she had a small business. Her money was over and had no help to continue selling rice, peas, flour.
SHELTER
My mother does not own the house. She rents a room of house for 1250 gourdes [$32 US] per semester. It is not too big and not enough space in. I am sleeping on the ground. The room is not in a good place but my mother has to stay in it. The roof leaks like a pipe when it’s raining. I cannot be well because we are too many in the room. My mom cannot afford anything to fix it. There is no safe place to put our waste; I am always going far from the house to throw our garbage, dirty water, and sewage away. I have some problems with rats, mosquitoes, without forgetting bugs. Mosquitoes never stop biting, and they give me malaria fever.
There is no electricity at my mother’s house, because that costs 150 gourdes [$3.85 US] each month.
EDUCATION
I did not go to school since my birthday. I do not know how to read and write, but a little friend of mine who is going to school in 2nd grade, teaches me how to write my name, only my name. Also, sometime in singing song with her, I learned how to count. I would like to go to school.
HEALTH
I am always sick, sometime I have vaginal infection, fever, cold headache. My mother sent me to see doctor, and I pay 50 gourdes [$1.28 US] for a visit medical, and the price of medicine changes. For example; 150 gourdes, 200g, and 300 gourdes according to kind of sickness you have. But my mother never has money to buy medicine for me. Sometimes, she buys some pills on the streets with a less money.
FOOD
I do not have a regular meal. Often I have coffee and bread in the morning. Other times, if my mother has nothing to give us, we spend the whole day without food. She uses a can of rice when she has money from her little Job. It is not even enough for us, because we are nine in the house. We never eat vegetables, peas, and beans.
Personal qualities and Dreams
I am elegant, generous, obedient, affectionate, and I am peaceful. I am a little girl who is honest, sincere, and serious. I like to share all I have with other people. Love to give advice to my friends. I like music.
My mother says that I am intelligent and obedient. I like to get angry, and love to play a lot.
My talents are telling stories at night and singing too. People say that I am singing well. I admire my kindness and I love my honesty most. I like my shyness the least. However, I hate the condition that I am living in. I hate my poverty. I would like to let people who live all over the world know that I am feeling lonely and I am in a sadness situation. So, I need a partner to think of me in the poverty situation that I am.
Dreams
I care about my education and my miserable life. I would like that my mother have a small business to take care of us. I would like to become a teacher. I think I can achieve my dreams if only I am going to school and having support from a fiend. If it is only my family, I could not. However, I think that will be possible from a helper. First, I need school and have friends to help me.

The long-term and immediate needs of a person in extreme poverty are far greater than can be solved in a single year. People in Need Partnership focuses on the long-term needs of your partner, though we do provide research and a certain amount of help in other areas. You may enroll in optional programs to provide help in additional areas of your choice. Making a meaningful future possible for your partner is our ultimate goal. This page may not have been updated with and so may not reflect optional programs created before July, 2009.
