Household
I was born on July 19, 2000 in Port-au-Prince. I am 9 years old. My mother’s name is Cilface. She is 29 years old. My father’s name is Enoure Celestin. He is 30 years old. My father catches fish. Sometimes he doesn’t catch anything. Afterwards he sells his fish in town. He earns $40-$60 ht {$5- $ 8.5 U.S}. It is difficult for my parents. I have two brothers. Jackito Celestin is 4 years old. Hermoune Celestin is 7 years old. We live together. I have no relatives living near me.
Living conditions
In the morning nobody is home. I look after my brothers and sweep the floor. My parents have no possibility to make a business. My mother is doing nothing. Sometimes I help my father when he comes home with the fish. In the afternoon I stay home and play with my brothers.
Living conditions
Shelter
The house that I am living in does not belong to my mother. She rents it for $50ht {$7 U.S.} per month. It is only 1 piece of room. There is not enough room to sleep. I sleep on the floor. The house is not comfortable. It leaks when it rains. This is a great problem for everyone in the room. There is no power/electricity. My daddy pays $30ht {4.20 U.S.} per month. We spend three days without electricity. My mom uses candles. She buys them for $1ht {14 cents U.S.}each. She borrows money from the neighbor when she has no money to buy candles.
Education
I do not go to school because my parents have no money. When I see others going to school I feel sad.
Health
Health is another problem. You need money to go to a doctor when you are sick. My parents do not have money to visit a doctor. When I am sick my mom buys medicine in the street. I always have a headache and stomachache. People in the area are often ill because they are using dirty water. We have mosquitoes in the area. They bite us. We often have malaria. We do not have treated water. We often have skin infections and vaginal infections.
Food
My mother gives me coffee with bread in the morning. I sometimes have corn, potatoes with sauce, and juice. When we have nothing to eat we go to bed without food.
Personal qualities and Dreams
I am a small elegant girl. I am intelligent and polite. I am a kind girl. I love sincerity. I am so shy. I get nervous easily. I am sincere.
I like to jump rope, dance, and sing. I like to tell the truth and history. I like to watch TV. I love cartoons. I like to play with dolls. I like to admire planes in the sky. I love butterflies. I like to draw houses, boats, and birds. I dance well.
I like drawing. I want to become an architect.
Dreams
I would like people everywhere to know that my situation is very hard. I would like them to help me with my education. I would like to become an architect. I would like to get out of my situation. It will be the most wonderful thing in my life. It will be a great thing for my family too.

The long-term and immediate needs of a person in extreme poverty are far greater than can be solved in a single year. People in Need Partnership focuses on the long-term needs of your partner, though we do provide research and a certain amount of help in other areas. You may enroll in optional programs to provide help in additional areas of your choice. Making a meaningful future possible for your partner is our ultimate goal. This page may not have been updated with and so may not reflect optional programs created before July, 2009.
