Send this child to school! ($15 per month for one year)
Summary
“Sometimes I am going to bed without having anything all day. The people get sick here because they are staying close to the dirty canal. I would like to become a secretary or computer scientist. My talent is singing.” Bethchedade Henry
Household
I was born on Feb 14, 1996 in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. I am 13 years old. I stopped school in first grade, because my father had no money to send me. My father is Morens Henry, he is 36 years old, and he has no profession. My mother’s name is Marie Jona Pierre Louis. She is 31 years old. I have three brothers and two sisters.
They are:
Morenalson Henry he is 11 years old
Stephan Henry he is 10 years old
Ashley Henry she is 1 year old
Morenise Henry she is 6 years old
Bethchana Henry who is 2 years old
Work
When I wake up at 7 O’clock, I wash my skin, brush my teeth, I sweep the floor before scrubbing it, arrange the bed, and take water for my mother to wash clothes. Later I play a running game with my friends. I can get my rest. Me and my family prays God before going to sleep I often go to sleep at 9 O’clock.
Education
I finished four years at school, from kindergarten to first year of fundamental. I am feeling sad when I see many kids are going to school. Without education, no one can have success, because education is very important.
Food and Nutrition
It’s not an easy thing to eat often. Sometimes in the morning I have coffee, but no food. If someone sends something for my father, I can eat. Sometimes I am going to bed without having anything all day.
Shelter and Clothes
The house I am living in does not belong to my family. My father rents it for $50 US per moth. The house has 2 pieces of rooms. The house is sheet metal, and it is not big enough for every body to sleep. The house leaks. When it’s raining my mom arranges some buckets to pick the water up from the roof and prevent water going to the bed But the ground is wet.
When I am sleeping sometimes, insects and small animals bite me. There is power electricity. My father pays $30ht ($4.28 US) per month for that. There is no electricity everyday, for that my mom uses candles. A candle cost $1ht, (2 or 3 cents US). She can use two candles a night, and when she has no money to buy one, my family and me are going to sleep in the dark.
Health and Medical
Not everybody in my family is in good health. For example, I am suffering and my father always has fever and headache. We can’t see a doctor when we are sick, because of money. So my father buys some medicine on the street.
The people get sick here because they are staying close to the dirty canal. Because of the mosquitoes they get malaria fever, cold, skin infection, headache.
Personal qualities and Dreams
I am charming, pleasant, affectionate, but rude, and shy. I am a girl who is respectful, sincere, wise, and serious too. I am a person who dislikes abuse people. I like to eat with other friends when I have, I understand and patient. I hate people annoying me. I love to smile. My mother describes me as a girl who is rude. I do not like people to talk any way with me, I am easily angry.
I think my interest is my education for now and my talent is singing. My neighbors say that I comb and clean the house well. I am singing when I am going to church. I often go to Catholic Church. I like my condition of living least in my like. I get my feeling when I am combing.
Dreams
I care about my studies most and my health is most important in my life. I would like to become a secretary and I imagine I can have success if only I am going to school and having support from a friend. If it is for one of my family, I could not.
I would like people everywhere know that I am living in a bad situation and I need your help that will be a good thing for me and my family, my country.
