August 2009 newsletter
To partners and friends of People in Need Partnership:
I've just returned from my second trip to Haiti, working closely with our PINP staff, and I am reporting back to you, the PINP family, about the news from the field.
I was in Haiti for ten working days reviewing our programs and visiting with the Haitian partners. In ten days we accomplished a lot, and all this made me feel very proud about our staff.
We reviewed the current programs and decided to focus and cut anything that is not closely related to our mission. Being focused and efficient is the key for success in making your partnerships as active and meaningful as possible.
We held meetings with all the Haitian partners to tell them the good news of the opening of our first two mini-centers. We have wanted to open a mini-center for months, and we decided it was time to do it. The mini centers will be a safe space for the Haitian partners to cultivate their partnerships, learn about themselves, and connect with other Haitian partners as a community. We will also provide tools at the mini-centers to have more direct communication with their partners.
After having raised funds through a Proposal, we succeeded in putting our first water purification project on the ground, which will serve all Haitian partners in Cite Soleil. It was a beautiful event in which all the beneficiaries participated. We also put a system in place to manage and maintain the water purification tank. We were motivated to do this by reading the Profiles of our partners, many of whom said that they had to drink their water within 24 hours or it would start to grow worms. Proposals are a way for you to make a commitment with your partner to build a water purification system or latrine, or start a literacy training program. This first project will teach us many lessons about making Proposals successful.
For me it is an honor to serve as a board member of such a great organization. I want to use this opportunity to thank you for being part of the family of People in Need Partnership, and encourage you to send your comments and suggestions to keep improving it over time.
