News from a family in city soleil!

Last week was July 10th, a day of beach have been organized by PINP from aboard partner. As one of PINP staff , I judge that was a wonderful idea because 90% people in city soleil never have chance going to beach. So, a family of seven people went to the beach for the first time in their life and they were very happy to go there.

first, There is a little girl from 9 years named Naphetalie Jean, she says” since my childhood is for the first day I am going to the ocean and I have been delighted going together with my family and I am able to say thanks to my sweet partner Cathy who has allowed me to attend the beach and helped me about all.
I have been enjoying with my family in the sea and made a tour over rowing boat, I was really happy to move in it because that was a new experience in my life and so does my family. so, I have been swimming, eating, ruining, drinking and relaxing myself.

I congratulate my partner to think of me that way and all people in the area was happy and appreciate that big work PINP is doing in Haiti. Be sure, if I did not go, I would have been sorry. So, I would like the other kids in PINP making same experience like me. By the way, one of my cousin went with us and is her first time going to the beach also”.

Me , as Marcel I think that was a good moment for that family because they were relaxing themselves. Haiti is a country where everybody is stressful after the horrible earthquake and need a place to enjoy. So, I hope is not only that family have privilege to go to spend a day of picnic but other family also. To be end, everybody from that Naphetalie’s family was happy and hope to get back other day.

April 16, 2010 News about the trafic In Haiti ( city soleil)

Since last tuesday 13, 2010 after the speech of the president of the Republic, life is becoming more difficult for the Haitian people. And the price of Gas has been increasing immediately in all gas stations. so, that's with much difficulty for a Driver having gas to buy. You can see many people are using gallon to buy gas to save home and you have to struggle to buy one gallon of gas ,a gallon of gas cost 400 gourdes and they do not want to sell to a driver more than 1.000 gourds gas which can not doing anything for a day and making trafic difficult all over around here For example: at Delmas 48 a body death in a gas station with a bullet and two more at Carrefour Marassa fighting to buy gas. they are selling the gas about midnight with their own friends. A person might be standing for a tap- tap during 1 or 2 hours of times and you have to fight to take a tap- tap. For example: last wednesday i went to the Delmas 75 with a couple of children from city soleil to come up at the mini-center. so, Every tap-tap i have been stopping , one of them did not want to take us because of missing of gas and i had money to pay for everyone. so , the girls were sad to not able to get in the tap-tap. I remember the first week of April , I rent a private tap-tap to come up to the mini- ecnter with the girls partners, they felt well and happy but the driver did not get back to pick us up. One of the girl is Naphetalie Jean, she is ten ( 10) years. she would like PINP having a mini-bus to transport all partners from city soleil to the mini- center specially with easily. then , she said: it looks danger to take public tap-tap cause we are too little to struggle to take tap-tap. she is thinking is so important for all aboard partners know that situation and thinking a way to help us with a mini bus. And the other girls hope PINP is going to find out away to go up at the office safely.
I see PINP program is very exicted and helping people here to change their living condition. so, what Naphetalie has explaining is really necessary and has much value, they have been talking to each other in the tap- tap during where are going in the office . I think every aboard parts who are reading that news blog will be going to think about. I know all haitians partners will be proud of you if you will help PINP has the mini bus. so, The gas trouble will be resolved by May 2th, says Preval admitration:

April 5, 2010 "Reopening of the class in city Soleil"

Since the first day of the horrible Tremor January 12, 2010 all schools are closed here.About 30.000 students are passed away, a lot of private like public without counting priest and nun schools are devastated. So, the Ministry of national education has decided to publish a date of the reopining of the school everywhere in Haiti. day ,which was January 5th. But, one month after the earthquake, many schools have been already working almost all over in the provinces towns. just as: Cayes, Jeremie, cap Haitian, Mirbalais, Petit-goave ect. so, many children were obliged to leave PAP to go to school to that country house not loose the school year. Evantually, school has been restarting the 5th, about 2% children went to school for the first weeks , but for the second weeks about 40% are attending to school in city soleil. I am able to tell until now one, a lot of schools which were cracked are not fixing up yet and that represents a big danger for the students. You can see a few schools just starting re-build in wood and cover with sheet metal. In city soleil not too many schools devastated but some are cracked and the students look still scare going in those schools. Haitian govenment, some big relief organizations have been promessing tents to some schools until now one, any of them does not receive anything. A few parents estamate under tents are so hot and they are thinking the children could not learning that way. I met with three school girls went to school. one of them is Isberline st louis, she is 10 years, is living in city soleil 17 and is in 4th grade. she says" I have been sorry about what's happened to my country but life has to continue again and without school there is no chance for a country moving. It's true my school is hit a bit by the tremor but I am obliged to go there in spit of i know apart of the wall in the school is no good i have to learn. I think God will protect my etablishment from the evil. I have many friends are coming to school and so scare, when they are feeling something moving in the class room, they feel like to run out. I think they can not learn like that. I ask myself when everything will be done?" the other one is Phyrie Franel- 13 old years and she is in 3rd and they are in same school together.
By he way, after three months from earthquake, life is re-continuing in city soleil at 80% there, but people hope their situation will change and having a new re-building program in Haiti . ( city soleil)

Village Rapatrie

Last week, I had a possibility to pay a visit to a block named village Rapatrie. This is a zone inside of Cite Soleil, so the horrible earthquake has not hit it too much, but a lot of houses are devastated. I saw a tent city where people make their tents with plastic and sheets. That's so sad to see the way people are living. They never receive any help from the big relief organizations like local one. They have problems for water, food, shelter, health care, etc. They tell me when it's raining it is a big challenge, because inside their plastic shelters there is much water with mud. You can see babies are sleeping in the mud, and young boys are playing dominoes. That's really lamentable. There were two churches there that are broken down during the tremor and some schools too. I think those people really need help and need to have people thinking of them, and there are about 250 people are living in that tent city. They grow plantains, sugar cane, and mangoes to survive.

That area is not developping yet because not too many people are interested in helping there. They have told tme, it should be great to find some organizations thinking and helping them with whatever.

Feb 26, 2010

It was Saturday early in the morning from 3: 00 Am to 7: 00 Pm, was raining in the south of country. So, many countries have been devastating by flooding. Just as cavaillon, st Louis of south. But there are also other countries have been touching by even that flooding. For example: Jacmel, Jeremie, Baradere, Grand Goave etc. Among all those towns Aux Cayes has been more touching. A ten of people have been dying, many houses have been destroying, many animals, gardens have been also devastating without counting missing people and other hurt. And the people were obliged to run away to the mountain just to save their life with their family.

Now, they have all lost and they are out of shelters. So, event cause by the rivers which overflow down there but not by the ocean. So, those people could not make any protestation close to the Haitian government because the government has no possibility to help because everybody is touched by even that tremor.

By the way, house is still collapsing and about 9: 55 Am this morning, there were a little bit quake but no damage. A couple of people say: the end of everything is up.

One month after the terrible earthquake, I met with a little boy (10) years old. His name is Mykender Balthazar and he has two little brothers. He says: " I am living in City Soleil for 4 years with my mother. So, I lost his dad when I was one month old. While the earthquake happened I was playing soccer in front of my home with a friend of mine, and at same time I felt the ground shake and was running inside of my home. Then several bricks felt down on me and my left foot was broken. My friend who was close to me died. Right away my father-in-law went to the hospital with me. There I had an operation and after 5 days i got back home and that moment was horrible for me. Two weeks after the operation I was starting to suffer a lot and til now I am Much suffering. I cannot make any movement with my foot. The doctor asks me to move it. What's more difficult that's to care of it every three days. Now, i am sleeping in a camp inside of a church with my mom, close to my house. In spite of the way i am, I still have my dream to become a singer. I would like to say to everybody who is watching that history that Jan 12th is an unforgettable day in my life til i pass away. By the way, there is a problem for water and food where I live. I hope school will start some day soon because i need to enjoy myself because I am always stressful.

Last night it was raining everywhere in the capital. A lot of people were so worried because 95% of their shelters are in sheets. For Exemple: I am in a sad situation where i could not sleep together with my family, and we were scared going to stand under the cracked house. And I continued standing until about 1: 16 AM. Children like adults had many difficulties to take their rest. The biggest problem is that we are going to enter the rainy season, and the Preval administration does not say anything yet for the population.

How long Haiti will take to re- build?

Every night my friends, family and I are praying that it does not rain, because things look really lamentable for people who are living close to Port-Au-Prince.

About the food distribution: the way they the big relief organizations such as the UN and American soldiers are making operation to distribute the food is good, but not all people are getting food. Also, they give people only rice, and they also need beans, spaghetti, oil, candles etc.

This morning they have been distributing food in City Soleil, but several people whispered because they had no ticket to take food. The person in charge to deliver the tickets prefered to sell them for $ 50 Ht. ($7.15 US), according to some people in the population.

I think the big organizations need to work with the local organization, like ours, to make everything operational.

The school just starts, the girls have received supplies and school fees. But, they have problem to go to school because of shoes. So, they really need that kind of thing to wear to attend school. I think that a big problem for our people in Need partners (girls). Everytime, they come to the mini-Center, they told me, when do they go to school? They would like to have a shoes program and they hope that will be better.

By the way, the same way a car can’t move without tires, It is the same for the school girls Haitian Partners. And I think they will be happy if PINP create a work page where the abroad partners can thinking how to help their kids partners about that sad problem where the Haitian girls are in?

News – Fountain ( City Soleil)

City Soleil is always one of the biggest areas here. Has known much problem about potable water. A black over populate. And the people down there still have a big difficulty to consummate water, when the ex-President Aristide elected to the power in 1991. He went to pay a visit in city Soleil, first time, and saw the biggest problem of the population. That was purification water. So, a few months later, he built a big fountain in entrance of the city and several others little fountains in different areas to give safe water for the population. After coup of President Aristide in 1991, City Soleil was up set with a lot of violences. And the technicians who worked to care of the fountain were obliged to give up this place. So, 4/4 years later the tank filtered and water was becoming unsafe. Inspire of that, the people were obliged to use it because they did have no another choice, at that time, one big bucket cost 50cent Ht. and they always had running water often. Now the population has water sometime and the population pays one big bucket for 2 gourdes when no running water at all, they pay a big bucket for 5 gourdes in a private fountain. So, according to a young lady, she tells “I have been living here for 10 years. I am doing nothing to make a living. I have 3 children. Each time I am giving that king of water do my kids it make them sick, for example” fever, diarrhea, bellyache.
There is sometime I am getting up I do not have even a penny and no water home, in that time, I do not know what to do”
There is a place they sell purification water but 5 gallons of water cost 30 gourdes. It is not all people who have that amount of money. I hope a day city Soleil will have good water in it and every body will be happy.

News from city soleil: jan 30,2009

Infact, city sloeil is the biggest popular area of Haiti. when the Ex-president Aristide was to the power, there were about 500.000 people were living down there. Right now, there are about 482.000 left. After forced departure of Aristide, city sloeil had known so many difficulties by Aristide's supporters who took up arms. a lot of people died, othres were obliged to give up their houses for going to lodge at their friends' or family's out of the city. And those who had no possibilities at all, were obliged to stay there. at that moment, there were only two police stations and bandits had forced the policemen to give up their post because they had bigger weapons than them. Both all of palice stations were burnt by the bandits. Many violences, rape, rob and kidnapping all over in the city. Some month later, Munistah was coming and getting control of the situation til now. Minustah is building a big police station to the center of city and they have project to build two more to assure the security of the population. Actually, the city is peaceful where everybody can move without problem and scare.

Now, the people respect one another and they are really happy to be quiet.
