Just a quick update: We were successful at the UN yesterday!! It took all day, but we were able to locate someone within the compound that listened to our story, and jumped into action. We were able to delay the Mayor, temporarily. But we arranged for legal counsel, as we found out Leonie, a woman living among the tent city, actually owns the land. It has been in her family for over 65 years, and the mayor has been trying to steal it for a year. Apparently he went so far as to arrest her and her son, because they refused to sell the land to him, or get off the property. Their is a legal team arriving there this morning to talk with Leonie and get all the facts, and to advise her of her rights. That feels amazing that we could assist and help her!! We could not have gotten anywhere without the help of Sarah Ribeiro. She was a Rockstar that moved mountains for us, and she appreciated our commitment to help this group of people. She invited us back to attend a UN meeting on shelter and logistics, as there will be key people there who can help us in our fight. We also got specific directions on how to go about applying for, and getting, tents, tarps and plastics for this encampment!! We are typing up the paperwork, and will go get signatures this afternoon. We are hoping it will only take a couple of days. We have been very fortunate so far. Yesterday I was told that God seems to be shining a light on me... maybe he is
That is it for now, we are off to the compound!!
