Mothers in extreme poverty

People living in extreme poverty typically earn less than a dollar a day, and have little access to clean water, sufficient food, medical care, or education. The mothers listed here live in devastated slums in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, with few resources or opportunities to work or improve their living conditions.

Our programs focus on long-term development, especially going to vocational school and attending our mini-center. Food, clothing and shelter are not addressed directly in this plan, but options for additional help are available. Cost: $25 per month. More about our programs.

“I am a young girl: generous, capricious but I am a little bit shy. I am very honest. The situation is very bad for us. My mistake is that I had a baby at 17 years, and the father abandoned me since 3 months. I am very stressed and sometimes tears cannot stopping drying in my eyes.” Sonia Toussaint

“There is not enough room for us to sleep. The house is very small, and it is close to a stinky ravine. The house leaks. At night, when it is raining, we have to wake up and stand up. I eat by chance. Once a day, four times a week. If I don’t find anybody that is willing to share his or food with me, my house spends the day with no food.” Marie Cherlyne Bercy

testimonials

"Oh my god you guys...what a wonderful, wonderful organization. I previously sponsored a child in Uganda, and after 2 years of hearing nothing from the internationally known organization, I got a letter from them telling me that his family had moved, he was no longer eligible for sponsorship, and here was my new child. I literally, to this day, wonder what happened to both him and the money I sent to help." Jo-Ann
